How to run a party quiz
A party quiz is the quickest way to get a whole room laughing together. Here's how to set one up on LimeMoment and run it on the night, step by step. You can have one ready in minutes.
Open Play on your moment
Everything lives in the Play area of your moment's dashboard, in three stages: Create, Get ready and Run it. Results sit alongside them for afterwards.
- Create your moment first if you haven't yet. It's free, and Play comes with every plan.
- Start here explains the whole flow if it's your first time.
Create your quiz
Choose the quickest route for you. You can mix them, and change everything afterwards.
- Pick a quick start such as a birthday quiz, wedding quiz, baby shower or retirement quiz.
- Press "Create it for me" and Lime AI writes a whole programme from what your moment already says about the occasion (Glow plan and up).
- Use Memory lane to turn your memory wall and shared photos into "Who posted this?" questions, with no writing at all.
- Add "One word for…" to make a word cloud about your guest of honour in one tap.
Check every question
Open the quiz in Get ready. Each question sits in its own numbered card, so you can work through them one at a time.
- Anything Lime AI guessed is marked "Lime AI's guess". Press "That's right, confirm it" when it is, or it won't score anybody.
- Press Save after each change and wait for "Saved" to appear.
- Set the time to answer each question (every new quiz starts at 15 seconds). Give a harder question more time, an easier one less, or switch a question's timer off. When the time runs out, answers stop.
- In the options, choose how points work: double points on a question, a double final question or a final wager where guests stake their points.
- Set prizes for first, second and third, or a random draw, and write a closing message to finish on.
Practise it first
Press "Practise it first" to get a private copy you can play on your own phone. Guests never see it and its scores never count.
- Try it on two phones if you can, so you see what the host and a guest each see.
- If you started the real quiz just to try it, use "Stop and reset" and it goes back to ready to play from the first question.
Get your guests in
Guests join by scanning a code or tapping a link. No app and no account.
- Have a TV or projector? Open the big screen and put it up (Shine plan and up). The join code shows on it.
- No big screen? Share the join link in your group chat or print the QR code on table cards. Everybody plays on their own phone.
- Guests far away join with the same link and can say where they're joining from.
Run it from your phone
Go to Run it and press Start. You set the pace: open a question, watch the answers arrive, reveal the answer and move on.
- Turn on "Show me the answer early" to see the right answer while a question is open, so you can build the suspense.
- For a "Guess what the celebrant will say" question, the guest of honour picks their answer live and the room is scored against it.
- Hand the running of it to somebody else with the MC link. They don't need an account and can only run the activities.
Crown the winners
After the last question the podium reveals third, second and first with their prizes, and your closing message thanks everybody for coming.
- Download the results, every answer and the leaderboard as CSV files from Results.
- Add the winners or the word cloud to your Event Story so they stay part of your moment.
- Want to use it again? "Reset to play again" clears the answers and scores, or Duplicate it to keep this game's results.
Add a word cloud
- In Create, press “One word for…”.
- Choose what guests see on their phones: the cloud as it grows, the cloud at the end once you close it, or nothing (it stays on the big screen only).
- Start it from Run it. Words appear as they arrive, with the most popular biggest and in the middle.
- Close it when the words slow down, then add it to your Event Story to keep it.
Tips from the hosts' side
- Eight to twelve questions is plenty for an evening and usually takes ten to fifteen minutes to play.
- Put the funniest question last and switch on the double final question or the final wager, so the lead can still change hands.
- Mix in a question about the guest of honour's favourite place, such as Albert Dock or Penny Lane, that only close friends would know.
- Ask guests to turn on sound when the quiz starts. It's off by default and makes the countdown and the winners' fanfare land.
- Guests who find small text hard can press the Aa button for larger text or simpler colours.
